We have recently seen an influx of new people in the Guild, which is awesome. However, it has been common ground in our discussions over the last months, that we were not able to capitalise on all this new talent that the Guild has attracted.

Being in Web3 and knowing first hand that it is the incentives that shape the forms participation takes I suggest a rework in the Coordinape admission criteria, not only to clarify the participation parameters but also to encourage Guild participants to up their efforts, contributions, and overall participation. In addition, we need a new paradigm that enables contributors to acknowledge and give honest feedback to the work of other Guild members. That is why I suggest the implementation of a praise system within the projects that will help us move towards non-reputation based Coordinape distributions.

What does that mean in practice though?

The participation in the Translators Guild Coordinape Rounds is determined by one’s participation in any of the Guild’s projects.

Guild members that contribute and take up tasks in any of the Guild Projects or contribute to the Guild through activities that include writing the Weekly recap, or holding educational sessions about Coordinape, and other similar activities, will be eligible for the Coordinape Round regardless of any remuneration received from the project.

What is a contribution, how do we measure contributions?

There is not a single definition of participation and nor we have to reach one in order for the proposed system to work.

The suggestion here is that each project will keep an OPEN list of participants (meaning people who take tasks and contribute to the project in an active way). In addition, the project members will be able to praise their colleagues in a Praise thread, located under the Governance category.

At the end of each month and prior to the Coordinape registration the Guild will hold a Townhall (a meeting open to everyone) during which the praise given will be quantified in an open procedure and honest feedback will be given amongst the different project contributors.

The two lists, the one of people taking tasks and the one with the praises will be merged to one and based on that people will be admitted in the Coordinape Round.

What to praise?

Praise is a way to inform the community of the quality of someone’s work. The Praising for the purposes of this proposal refers to project contributions and activities that take place within the Guild projects. Since people have different standards to define contributions and their quality, the more detailed the praises are the best for the quantifiers to understand the value of the contributions praised.
