Summary

International Media Nodes & Translation Guild will be the new home of the Translation Guild. The IMN project will be coordinated by an IMN coordinator and language champions will create content to gather a new audience for the Bankless mission. This document highlights the process for starting an IMN, how to get funded and obligations to fulfill.

Scope

The scope of the present document is to provide a detailed explanation of the proposal for the transformation the Translator Guild should go through, in order to become a center for the development of the Local Media Nodes worldwide. Starting from the rebranding into The International Media Node & Translation Guild, this document will descant the reasons behind this transformation, the mission, and values that this new guild will bring and ensure, the specific needs and requirements for it to properly function, the financial implications this endeavor will require from the BanklessDAO. Finally, we shall conclude with the usage of the BanklessDAO branding through the network of local media nodes that will be created over time by the new guild itself.

Background

The transition from Season 1 to Season 2 of the BanklessDAO will mean that translation services will not be anymore paid out "per piece" based on the number of newsletters translated. If in Season 1 each role (Translator, Reviewer) received BANK tokens for every single newsletter they either translated or reviewed, with the arrival of Season 2 things will drastically change.

In Season 2 the newsletter will become Projects, and each Project will decide which languages to get their material translated into. Therefore translators/reviewers of languages not selected by Projects will find themselves without a scope.

Therefore, in order to ensure the continuous development of the contributors inside the Translator Guild and the BanklessDAO expansion we are going to propose to change the Guild, from a simple pool of resources (which will still remain available to single Projects seeking out translation services) to a new decentralized entity called The International Media Node & Translation Guild.

It is important that the transition to this new phase of the International Media Node is smooth and easy to navigate through by the members of the 23 languages that the Translations Guild support at this moment. Achieving that will enable the DAO to reach a much wider audience.

Mission & Values alignment

The IMN Guild strengthens the vision of the DAO to bring the next billion people into crypto by opening up the content to non-English speakers. The IMN operates in coordination with the other guilds of the BanklessDAO and aligns its actions and material produced, with the common goals set through the Bankless community. The goal of the IMN is to provide access to the material and knowledge produced by the BanklessDAO to communities that do not speak, read and understand English. Through translating and making available to their local-language communities resources like the two Weekly newsletters of the DAO (WR and DA), educational articles, and material produced by the other Media Nodes, the different language nodes will engage with new communities and individuals.

Specifications

The new media nodes that refer to the IMN Guild have to adhere to the application process as it is described here and are subjected to the terms and conditions, as decided by the DAO.

Financial Implications

The funding for the individual IMN nodes will be done by the Grants Committee. The IMN champions are responsible to submit a one-page report at the end of every month to ensure funding for the next month.

The Guild needs to allocate budget for the IMN role:
