During Season 5 and 6, the PM Guild introduced the concept of Active Membership, wherein individuals who put effort in the pursuit of the guild’s mission would be rewarded with governance rights and tool access. This proposal seeks to further refine active membership in S7 based on a chat in one of our PM Guild Weekly Tactical Meetings. It seeks to amend the following PM Guild Governance docs:

Why Have Active Membership Status?

The PM Guild is a permissionless organization (i.e. anyone can join), but there are certain decisions (i.e. direction, how we work) that we would like to restrict to people who have some sort of stake in the future of the guild. Put another way: those who contribute to the guild’s future should have a say in how the guild runs today. We call these people active members.

Who Should Have Active Membership Status?

In Season 5, we experimented with using meeting attendance OR kanban tasks as criteria for active membership. Those who had attended at least 3 of the last 6 meetings or had completed 2 kanban tasks during the season were considered active members.

In Season 6, we started to calculate membership monthly, and restricted active membership to those who completed one kanban task in the previous month as well as elected role holders and multisigners.

In Season 7, we have ideated calculating membership both monthly and seasonally (i.e. If you do 1 kanban task a month, you are a monthly-active member (MAM) . If you are active in any month of the season, you are seasonally-active member (SAM). If you are an elected role-holder or multisigner, you are both MAM and SAM.
