Translators Guild Governance Framework

The current Governance Framework aims in clarifying the governance procedures of the Translators Guild in regard to role holders, elections for roles, participation in governance and project initiation management.

Specification

Guild Governance Framework

This is a framework when it comes to governance related issues, for projects initiation you can look the process on the Notion of the Guild. So, feel free to do what you feel is right for your particular proposal. Note: if your idea doesn’t require guild funds or addition/revision/depreciation of a guild role or active program then you probably don’t need to use the rigor of this process and can probably just do a temperature and awareness check via messages in the appropriate guild channel.

  1. Ideation
    1. Share an idea in #translation-general to get some quick feedback.
    2. Discuss your idea in a Guild meeting.
  2. Proposal Draft
    1. Signal in #translators-general that you’re working on it so that co-authors can signal interest in collaborating (i.e. work in the open).
    2. Open a thread to help the conversation stay in one place and more guild members to get involved.
  3. Discussion/Revision
    1. Receive comments in #translation-general, Notion.
    2. Option: LettuceMeet to coordinate feedback/advice calls where needed.
    3. Redraft the proposal and communicate in #translation-general when changes happen.
  4. Voting (Consensus Check)
    1. Proposal updated to status ‘Voting’ with link to the sesh poll.
    2. Use a @seshbot poll to poll the vote in #announcement-poll channel.
    3. Vote poll should be open for minimum 3 days to maximize participation.
    4. Be sure to clearly label it as a ‘consensus vote’ and use the @Translatoooor tag to restrict the voting to the active guild members.
    5. All binary (yes/no) type votes require a 75% consensus to pass.
    6. If/When a proposal fails to achieve the 75% during the polling phase should not be considered void but there should be a secondary procedure that the members submitting the proposal can take.
    7. Opening a thread under the #translators-governance discord channel and revising the proposal, incorporating the comments and suggestions of members who objected/voted against the proposal, is advised. After a period of a minimum of 2 weeks that guarantees that every Guild member can add comments and suggestions to the proposal, the re-written/adjusted proposal can be polled again.
  5. Closing and Treasury Distributions
    1. Proposal is updated to status ‘Closed’ and a decision summary is recorded.
    2. Guild coordinator role notified (if not aware) to rally the multi-sig signers.
    3. Signers sign transaction(s).
